Director, Control Systems & Electrical Engineering · Nusano

Jan 2022 – Present

Valencia, CA · Salt Lake City, UT

  • Lead a team of 10+ in-house engineers and contractors across multiple disciplines, building the control systems for a state-of-the-art particle accelerator facility.
  • Built out Nusano's in-house engineering capability across controls hardware, controls software, electronics, application software, and data-center domains.
  • Partner with operations, mechanical engineering, physics, and IT to coordinate cross-functional efforts, and serve as a design-review approver providing high-level technical guidance.
  • Direct exploratory efforts to integrate machine learning and AI into accelerator applications.

Senior Control Systems Engineer · Nusano

Mar 2021 – Dec 2022

Valencia, CA

  • Owned the design, fabrication, commissioning, and testing of the full control-system scope for a commercial heavy-ion particle accelerator producing medical radioisotopes at industrial scale.
  • Translated stakeholder needs into detailed design specifications and requirements across facility layout, electrical, and telecom efforts.
  • Oversaw a team of controls electrical and software engineers, plus the panel shop, IT, system builder, and outsourced software vendors.
  • Championed best practices for control-systems development (CI/CD, UX, test, hardware).

Scientific Control Systems Engineer · Nusano

Sep 2019 – Feb 2021

Valencia, CA

  • Designed and developed PLC software to the IEC 61131 standard (Structured Text).
  • Designed controls hardware and produced system-level analysis (cable schedules, routing, I/O lists, panel loads).
  • Configured networking equipment (VLANs) and networked devices, and oversaw vendor SATs for software deliverables.
  • Led FMEA efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate safety issues.

Software Control Systems Engineer · Amada Miyachi

Feb 2017 – Sep 2019

Monrovia, CA

  • Lead software engineer for the Autoflow and Glovebox hermetic seam-sealing systems.
  • Developed C# and PLC code to drive a multi-axis motion-control system inside a controlled-gas environment.
  • Owned the software feature roadmap, advising project management on scope, timelines, and technical detail.
  • Integrated automated software-test tooling and version control.

Founder · Software Engineer · Technical Creative · Codeate

Jul 2016 – Feb 2017

Glendale, CA

  • Founded a small studio focused on immersive virtual- and augmented-reality experiences.
  • Drove the creative and technical development of The Torus Syndicate, a VR game built in C# on the Unity engine.
  • Responsible for overall systems design and integration, front-end implementation, and core game logic.

Ride Controls Software Engineer · Walt Disney Imagineering

May 2012 – Jun 2016

Glendale, CA · Shanghai, China

  • Developed large PLC software (1500+ I/O points) for a state-of-the-art, high-throughput roller coaster at Shanghai Disneyland.
  • Specified the full software system in UML under the mentorship of senior engineering staff.
  • Led a team of engineers and operators to coordinate testing and adjustment of a safety-critical control system in a foreign, dynamic, and time-sensitive environment.
  • Designed and implemented a park-wide HMI system, managing a successful migration of responsibilities to a local engineer while maintaining consistency and scope.
  • Wrote detailed test documentation, managed the version-control system, and maintained auxiliary SCADA systems.
