Experience

Ride Controls Software Engineer · Walt Disney Imagineering

May 2012 – Present

Glendale, CA · Shanghai, China

  • Developed large PLC software (1500+ I/O points) for a state-of-the-art, high-throughput roller coaster at Shanghai Disneyland.
  • Led a team of engineers and operators to coordinate testing and adjustment of a safety-critical control system in a foreign, dynamic, and time-sensitive environment.
  • Designed and implemented a park-wide HMI system and managed a successful migration of responsibilities to a local engineer while maintaining consistency and scope.
  • Wrote detailed test documentation, managed the version-control system, and maintained auxiliary SCADA systems.

Associate Ride Controls Engineer · Walt Disney Imagineering

Jun 2011 – Apr 2012

Glendale, CA

  • Received training in HMI systems and designed HMI control consoles for park-wide implementation.
  • Oversaw hardware mock-ups to test industrial sensors in special-effects environments.
  • Created operator-console layouts in AutoCAD to specification and standards.
  • Researched and recommended proximity-sensor selection and implementation with vendors.

Electrical Engineering Intern · Topanga Technologies

Jun 2010 – Jun 2011

Canoga Park, CA

  • Designed new and existing digital circuit sections and internal test circuits.
  • Implemented automation tools for data capture and testing.
  • Performed measurements and tests using RF equipment, and prototyped enclosures in the machine shop.

Programming Intern · Symantec Corporation

2010

Culver City, CA

  • Developed an internal web front-end for data aggregation and visualisation using PHP, amCharts, and MSSQL.
  • Audited software and reported on a known potential security vulnerability.

Undergraduate Research Intern · NSF REU — Auburn University

May 2009 – Jul 2009

Alabama

  • Created a machine-learning algorithm and GUI to characterise canine motion in high-noise data.
  • Worked on a multidisciplinary (EECS, ME) project in autonomous command and navigation of a trained K-9.
  • Wrote research articles, posters, and presentations in LaTeX.

Research Intern · RISE REU — Technical University of Dortmund

Jun 2008 – Aug 2008

Germany — Dept. of Logistics

  • Built a software platform (VisRoute) for solving dynamic vehicle-routing problems.
  • Researched heuristic methods for optimising delivery routes with constraints, and wrote the accompanying technical paper.

Leadership & Activities

IEEE — National Speaker

Apr 2013 – Present

Keynote Speaker

  • Developed and delivered a series of keynotes for engineering students and organisations.
  • Talks include "Creating a Personal Brand", "Building a High-Performance Student Organization", and "Everyday Leadership for Engineers".

IEEE — UCLA Chapter

Jan 2010 – May 2012

President (2011–2012) · OPS Lead · Projects Manager · Micromouse Lead

  • Created the OPS Program, a year-long project teaching hands-on electronics to incoming students.
  • Fundraised over $32,000 from student, department, and industry sources.
  • Managed and mentored 100+ students across robotics projects and competitions.
  • Led the chapter to win UCLA Engineering Student Group of the Year two years running (2010–2012).
